Chief Bell in contention at 2 fire departments
3/9/2007Toledo Fire Chief Mike Bell remains in contention for appointment to one of the top spots at two fire departments in Texas, he said yesterday.
Chief Bell is among the top candidates for fire chief in San Antonio and Fort Worth, where he interviewed last week.
He was not selected to be the fire chief in Washington. Atlanta Fire Chief Dennis L. Rubin has been tapped to become the next chief of the fire department in the nation s capital. Chief Bell was one of five finalists for the $170,000-a-year position.
He said yesterday that he learned on Tuesday that he was passed over for Washington job. But I know that I did very well. I have no clue where I am at in the process to name a chief in the other systems, he said.
Chief Bell said his final day in the office unless something drastic happens will be March 30, but added that he will be available through May while he uses up vacation days.
