North Baltimore school secretary appeals firing

BOWLING GREEN A former North Baltimore, Ohio, high school secretary has filed notice in Wood County Common Pleas Court that she intends to appeal her termination.

In a 4-1 vote, the school board fired Doni Flores on March 1 for failing to account for more than $5,000 in fees she received in the school office. A state audit revealed last month that she received but did not deposit $5,587 in school funds between February, 2005, and August, 2006.

No criminal charges have been filed against Ms. Flores.

In her notice of appeal, she states that the board did not comply with state law and public policy in terminating her contract. Her attorney, Christine Reardon, could not be reached for comment.
