Three Lucas County jail inmates were arraigned yesterday on charges that they tried to smuggle cigarettes and marijuana into the jail.

Frank Maples and Aljamon Sandifer, both 19, and Trivelle Hartfield, 22, all from Toledo, were charged with one count each of possessing criminal tools and felony conveyance of drugs.

A security officer outside the jail found a partial piece of window on the ground during the evening of Feb. 25.

The window had been broken out from at least two stories up about 20 to 30 minutes before, and cigarettes and marijuana were brought inside the jail by a bedsheet that was dropped down, authorities said.
