2 area projects receive grants from state

The Ohio Controlling Board has issued grants to help The Andersons Inc. and a partner develop an ethanol-producing plant in Darke County and to help Rieter Automotive North America Inc. expand in Oregon.

The grants, approved yesterday, included $100,000 for equipment and $500,000 for roadwork for The Andersons Marathon Ethanol LLC to construct an ethanol-fuel factory in Greenville. Its 100 million-gallon facility would be the first in the state to make the vehicle fuel that could reduce petroleum consumption by drivers. Cost of the project is $85 million.

Rieter is to receive $150,000 to buy equipment in its expanded fiber-padding and carpet insulation plant for automotive parts. The project s cost is $1 million.
