A Toledo teenager accused of robbing a bar near downtown Toledo was indicted on multiple robbery charges yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

James Smith, 18, of 624 South Ave., was indicted by a grand jury with five counts of aggravated robbery with a firearm specification and five counts of robbery. He is in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond after he appeared in Toledo Municipal Court on April 30.

Mr. Smith and a 17-year-old South Toledo boy are accused of robbing the Charleston Bar, 340 Broadway, about 7 a.m. April 28. The robbers came in through the back door, brandished guns, and demanded money from the cash register and from four people, including the barmaid and a woman who was there drinking coffee.

About 15 minutes after the holdup, police chased the teenagers and on foot about two blocks, arresting them in the 200 block of Segur Avenue, police said.

The juvenile was held in the juvenile lockup after a detention hearing in Lucas County Juvenile Court.
