Suspected mold forces closing of Lucas County youth treatment center
5/17/2007The Lucas County Juvenile Court s Youth Treatment Center has closed after state officials discovered suspected mold on a wall in the residential facility.
The center at 225 11th St. closed last night because of what appeared to be black mold on the building s third floor and the 34 residents of the facility were removed.
The center will remain closed while the county works to clean up the problem and make long-term repairs. It s estimated the center will be closed for at least three weeks.
Some of the residents were relocated to two gender separate wings of the Juvenile Detention Center and youth treatment center employees are there continuing the youth s care and programming. Others were taken to other facilities in neighboring counties.
