PORT CLINTON - The jail sentence for the Waterville woman who discarded her stillborn daughter under a bridge near Curtice was reduced recently so she could keep her job and support her family.

Jessica Hubley already served 64 days in jail on weekends in a detention facility.

Ottawa County Common Pleas Court Judge Paul Moon recently suspended the remaining 116 days of her 180-day jail sentence so she could continue working at Associated Estates Realty Corp., a real estate investment trust.

Hubley gave birth at home to a 6-pound girl in April, 2004, and then left the full-term baby in Cedar Creek under the Rieman Road bridge in Ottawa County's Allen Township.

Children playing in the area found the body, with the umbilical cord still attached, on Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004.

As part of a plea agreement in August, Hubley pleaded guilty to one count each of abuse of a corpse and drug abuse and admitted to using cocaine while pregnant with the girl. The baby's death was attributed to cocaine found in her blood.

Hubley has since given birth to another daughter, who is about 14 months old, and asked for the suspended jail time to provide for herself and her child, officials with the clerk of court's office said.

The three years of community control she was also sentenced to in October still stands.
