Toledo man ruled competent for trial on gun charges
6/1/2007MONROE A Toledo man who faces felony charges for allegedly pulling a gun on the man charged in connection with his 17-year-old son s death that occurred during a car chase last June has been found competent to stand trial.
Charles V. Fackelman, 46, completed a forensic examination. On Tuesday First District Judge Jack Vitale set a pretrial conference for July 12.
A preliminary examination, in which testimony is expected to be heard, is set for 1 p.m. July 17.
Mr. Fackelman is charged with driving to the home of former Bedford school board member Randy Krell and pointing a loaded gun at him.
Mr. Krell ran into a neighbor s house to escape the gunman and shut the door.
Mr. Fackelman then kicked open the neighbor s front door, but Mr. Krell had already left, according to a sheriff s office report.
No one was physically injured in the incident.
Mr. Krell is accused of chasing a car of teenagers that later crashed, killing Mr. Fackelman s son, Charlie.
He is charged with vehicular manslaughter and felonious driving, and is scheduled for trial on June 25.
