Kroger, union workers hold contract talks

6/16/2007

Labor contract talks were being held last night between the Kroger Co. and union officials who represent 3,200 workers at 28 stores across northwest Ohio.

A strike or other economic action is possible by midnight tonight if a deal isn t reached. The last contract with the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 911 has been extended through tonight. But the union has said some action is possible if a settlement does not occur.

Dale Hollandsworth, a spokesman for the supermarket chain, said negotiations were held with a mediator. Our hope is that they will go until there is a resolution, Mr. Hollands worth said.
