6/23/2007

Khelleh Konteh, warden of Toledo Correctional Institution, has been recognized as one of The Best in the Business 2007 by the American Correctional Association s Corrections Today magazine.

Mr. Konteh was nominated as a representative of the state of Ohio for the award. This month s edition of the magazine highlights 16 correctional professionals across the country selected to receive the award, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

This award is a tribute to the corrections approach in Ohio and my desire to bring together inmates and staff to look at corrections holistically. I was flattered to receive this honor and to represent Ohio s corrections family, the warden said in a statement.

Mr. Konteh has been the warden since the prison opened in 2000. As of June 18, there were 1,097 inmates in the lockup.
