Hearing set for baby abandoned in Findlay park

6/29/2007

FINDLAY - Hancock County Juvenile Court Judge Allan Davis yesterday determined that a baby boy found abandoned at Riverside Park was neglected and dependent.

Judge Davis then scheduled a disposition hearing for Aug. 8 at which time he could decide to give permanent custody of the child to the county's Children's Protective Services. At that point, the baby could be adopted.

The county was granted temporary emergency custody of the newborn May 17 - a day after a Glenwood Middle School student found the baby in a women's restroom at the park.

A note written on the box the baby was found in said, "Please take care of me. I was born May 15. (My mommy can't.)"

Police have been unable to locate the baby's parents.
