Bowling Green teen told to apologize for bogus kidnapping

8/15/2007

BOWLING GREEN A 17-year-old Bowling Green boy who helped stage a fake kidnapping at a local Wendy s restaurant was ordered yesterday to write a letter of apology to the Bowling Green police.

Wood County Juvenile Court Judge David Woessner also ordered the youth, who was found delinquent of disorderly conduct, to pay court costs.

Judge Woessner said leniency was warranted because the teen did not have a prior history of delinquency and cooperated with police after the Jan. 26 prank.

The youth and a 16-year-old boy were arrested after a woman waiting in line at the Wendy s drive-through window on South Main Street called 911 after seeing a boy with bound hands and a gagged mouth stumble out of a car s trunk. The boys later admitted they set up the scene as a joke.

The 16-year-old served five days in juvenile detention last month for his role in the incident.
