Grand jury to hear trucking company killing case
8/16/2007The man accused of killing two men last week at a Perrysburg Township business sat motionless, wearing an orange jail jumpsuit this morning in Perrysburg
Municipal Court during a preliminary court hearing.
Calvin C. Neyland, 43, is charged with two counts of aggravated murder in the deaths of Douglas Smith, 44, of Sylvania Township and Thomas "Tomm" Lazar, 58, of Belle Vernon, Pa.
Perrysburg Municipal Court Judge S. Dwight Osterud bound the case over to the Wood County grand jury this morning, following testimony from an employee of a business nearby where the shootings occurred and a Perrysburg Township police detective.
Chad White, an employee of Great Lakes Windows, which is connected to Liberty Transportation, 7171 Reuthinger Rd., by a driveway, told the prosecution he saw the accused murderer holding a gun in his right hand last Wednesday around 3 p.m. and then identified him as Mr. Neyland, by pointing to him in the courtroom.
Mr. White said he saw Mr. Neyland walk to a red tractor-trailer cab and then into a warehouse, where he heard gunshots.
"When he left his truck, I seen a gun in his right hand," Mr. White said this morning in court.
