Ohio seeks to shutter 3 game parlors

8/30/2007

COLUMBUS - Attorney General Marc Dann yesterday sought a preliminary injunction to shut down three gaming parlors, including one in Tiffin.

Investigators from the attorney general's office found approximately 14 gambling machines in operation at the Treasure Chest, 2459 West Market St., according to a press release from Mr. Dann's office.

The attorney general sought similar injunctions for businesses in Jeffersonville, Fayette County, and Calcutta, Columbiana County.

The complaints allege that the operators of the parlors are violating Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act by claiming their machines are "skill based" when, in fact, they are not.

All the machines listed in the complaints offer cash payouts as prizes.
