Headquarters of Calphalon to exit Perrysburg
10/4/2007Calphalon Cookware, which has been headquartered in Perrysburg since it was founded in 1963, will move its base next summer to Atlanta, the home of its parent company, Newell Rubbermaid Inc.
About 85 jobs will be affected, moving by mid-August, as Newell Rubbermaid completes its larger headquarters in Atlanta, said spokesman Connie Bryant.
Unaffected are 210 jobs in Perrysburg Township, she said, which are involved with manufacturing cookware, distribution, customer service, and customer relations.
"This was a complicated decision for us to make, and is no reflection on the highly valued work performed by Calphalon associates," a company statement said.
Calphalon, which makes high-end cookware and other utensils, was founded in Perrysburg by Ronald Kasperzak, who named the firm Commercial Aluminum Cookware Co. Designed for professionals and experienced cooks, the cookware gained a reputation for quality and the company remained privately held until 1998, when Newell Rubbermaid acquired it.
Employees at Calphalon, whose building is at Third and D Streets in Perrysburg, were informed yesterday of the decision. Most of affected 85 workers will be offered the opportunity to relocate to Atlanta, Ms. Bryant said. The company will offer job hunting assistance to those who choose not to move.
In a statement, the parent firm said the move is in line with a strategy of becoming one global firm.
