BOWLING GREEN A Perrysburg man charged with killing two people at a Perrysburg Township trucking firm where he had been employed is to be evaluated to see whether he is competent to stand trial.

Wood County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert Pollex yesterday granted a motion by defense attorney Adrian Cimerman for Calvin Neyland, Jr., 43, to undergo a competency evaluation at the Court Diagnostic and Treatment Center, Toledo.

Mr. Neyland is charged with two counts of aggravated murder stemming from the Aug. 8shooting deaths of Douglas Smith, 44, of Sylvania Township, and Thomas Tomm Lazar, 58, of Belle Vernon, Pa. The victims reportedly were firing Mr. Neyland when he shot them at Liberty Trucking on Reuthinger Road, authorities said.

Mr. Neyland, who could face the death penalty if convicted, is to be in court again Dec. 11.
