Owens Corning faux-stone plant to close, idling 145

Owens Corning will close a faux-stone plant in Navarre, Ohio, Dec. 21, furloughing 145 employees.

Production from the plant near Dayton, in the southwestern quadrant of the state, will be moved to plants in Napa, Calif., and Chester, S.C., spokesman Jason Saragian said. He cited weaker sales, caused by a downturn in the U.S. housing industry, for the closing.

The Toledo building products manufacturer said this month the housing slump would result in layoffs of an unspecified number at corporate headquarters in downtown Toledo and 300 or more at insulation plants in Newark, Ohio, and Delmar, N.Y.
