2 in Springfield Township indicted for failing to show up to testify

Two Springfield Township women who failed to appear when subpoenaed to testify at a recent trial in Lucas County Common Pleas Court were indicted yesterday on obstructing justice charges.

Katie Pezan, 18, of 616 Highland Creek Ct. and Mikaela Buck, 18, of 6741 Lincoln Green St. face up to five years in prison if convicted.

The women are accused of hindering the investigation of a shooting that occurred Aug. 16 in Sleepy Hollow Park near Dorr Street and Richards Road, according to the indictment.

Miss Pezan and Miss Buck were in jail in lieu of $75,000 bond each last night. They are to appear today before Common Pleas Judge Ruth Ann Franks for a hearing on why they did not appear at Monta Price's trial.

Price, 18, and a co-defendant, Ira Brown, 19, both of Toledo, were convicted for their roles in the shooting of Rick Burk at the park during a robbery attempt. Mr. Burk, who was then 47 and living in the Old West End, was shot twice.

Price was sentenced Feb. 8 to nine years in prison after entering an Alford plea to aggravated robbery and felonious assault.

Brown pleaded guilty Oct. 18 to robbery and was sentenced to four years in prison.

Price had two trials delayed because Miss Pezan and Miss Buck failed to show up as witnesses.

The indictment contends the women also hindered the investigation in the days immediately after the shooting.
