A corrections officer at the Toledo Correctional Institution has been placed on paid administrative leave after his arrest for attempting to take marijuana into the facility, authorities said.

Jeffery Maier, 50, of 2411 Cheyenne Blvd. was arrested Friday and charged with illegal conveyance of drugs and trafficking marijuana, both felonies. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and a $12,500 fine. He was released on a supervised recognizance bond after his arraignment Monday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Mr. Maier had about four ounces of marijuana when he was arrested about 12:45 p.m. Friday at the correctional facility, 2001 East Central Ave., authorities said.

Mr. Maier has worked for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction since 2003. He transferred to the Toledo facility in August, 2007.
