BOWLING GREEN A Toledo man charged with killing a Bowling Green State University student 21 years ago made his first appearance in Wood County Common Pleas Court Thursday morning.

Michael Lee Dixon, 50, was arraigned on capital murder charges before Judge Robert Pollex, who ordered Dixon to be held without bond in the Wood County jail. Dixon is charged with aggravated murder for the 1987 stabbing death of Karen Sue Hirschman, 21, at her Bowling Green apartment.

Dixon, who had been an inmate at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility until his recent transfer to Wood County, is serving 84 years to life for an unrelated 1987 murder in Columbus and other crimes committed around the same time period. Investigators say DNA testing linked Dixon to Ms. Hirschman s death.

A pretrial hearing was set for April 1.
