Appeals court upholds kidnap, rape conviction

3/1/2008

Despite a vow at his sentencing in December, 2005, that his convictions for rape and kidnapping would be overturned, the appeal for Jeremy Quinn, Jr., was denied in a decision released yesterday by Ohio s 6th District Court of Appeals.

Quinn, 26, was sentenced to 70 years in prison after being found guilty by a Lucas County Common Pleas Court jury on six counts of rape and one count of kidnapping.

He was convicted of the July 18, 2005, kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl from her Sylvania Township home and for raping her repeatedly in a secluded area.

Judge James Jensen sentenced Quinn to the maximum amount of prison time.

In a 26-page opinion, the appellate court upheld the conviction and the sentence.

Prior to his sentencing, Quinn claimed he was convicted because he was black and the victim was white. He added that he believed his conviction would be overturned on appeal.
