A corrections officer charged with taking marijuana into the state prison where he worked entered a not guilty plea yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Jeffery Maier, 50, of 2411 Cheyenne Blvd., is charged with one count each of illegal conveyance of drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility and marijuana trafficking. He's free on a recognizance bond.

Judge James Bates set a trial date of April 8. If convicted on both charges, Mr. Maier faces a maximum of six years in prison.

Mr. Maier has worked for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections since 2003 and transferred to the Toledo Correctional Institution in 2007.
