Gas pipeline replacement to affect 600 customers in South Toledo

5/12/2008

A four-month, $1.3 million replacement of natural-gas pipelines in South Toledo begins today.

Columbia Gas of Ohio expects 600 customers in the Broadway area to have their gas shut off intermittently for several hours at a time, although utility spokesman Chris Kozak said the company will try to keep [the service interruptions] to the absolute minimum.

The utility is replacing aging steel pipelines with flexible, noncorrosive plastic ones.

Customers on Broadway Street, Lotus Avenue, Knower Street, Pleasant Place, South Avenue, Colburn Street, Prouty Avenue, Orchard Street, Maumee Avenue, Courtland Avenue, and Banks Street are most likely to be affected. Columbia Gas said it planned to contact customers by letter before the work begins.
