East Toledoan indicted in stabbing at apartments

5/13/2008

An East Toledo man accused of stabbing another man in the chest was indicted yesterday by a Lucas County grand jury.

Samuel Pratt, 29, of 1540 Lakewood St., who was charged with felonious assault, is in the county jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.

Mr. Pratt went to an apartment at 1803 Christian Ave. in West Toledo about 3:50 a.m. May 3. He told police he was there to visit his children, a report said.

Mr. Pratt and a woman who owns the apartment began arguing, and she asked Mr. Pratt to leave. Three people managed to get Mr. Pratt into the hallway, where he is accused of punching at least two of them, police said.

He then began pounding on his wife's apartment door, saying he was being assaulted. She let Mr. Pratt inside and he went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. His wife tried unsuccessfully to take it from him, police said.

Mr. Pratt returned to the hallway and stabbed David Lopez, 20, once in the chest. He was treated at Toledo Hospital.
