Perkins Township to settle Fostoria chief s lawsuit

5/13/2008

TIFFIN Fostoria police Chief John McGuire and the Perkins Township trustees tentatively agreed to settle a lawsuit over comments allegedly made against him.

The chief last year sued the trustees and township police Chief Tim McClung, claiming Chief McClung made false statements with intent to harm Chief McGuire when he was a candidate for the chief s job in Fostoria. Chief McGuire used to work for the township police.

Trustee Chairman Bill Dwelle said the board is to vote on the settlement when it meets at 6 p.m. today.

Kenneth Harris, a Columbus attorney who represented the township, said he could not divulge details of the settlement.

According to court records, the township was ordered to pay the court costs associated with the lawsuit, which had been set for trial this week in Seneca County Common Pleas Court.
