Closing arguments continue in Toledo terror trial
6/10/2008The jury in the trial in U.S. District Court of three Toledo men accused of plotting attacks on U.S. soldiers in Iraq listened to closing arguments on Tuesday from attorneys representing two of the defendants.
Stephen Hartman, who is representing Marwan El-Hindi, told jurors that his client wasn t involved in a conspiracy to kill or harm troops or in the planning of terrorist-related crimes.
"Nothing happened and nothing was about to happen," Mr. Hartman said.
The jury began hearing closing arguments last week in the trial of Mr. El-Hindi, Mohammad Amawi, and Wassim Mazloum, who are accused of conspiring to kill or maim people outside the United States.
Jeff Helmick, an attorney for Mr. Mazloum, began making his arguments to jurors later in the morning, and talked to the panel for about 20 minutes before the trial broke for lunch.
The jury will hear rebuttal arguments from a federal prosecutor and then will be handed the case to begin deliberations.
