Toledo to offer free smoke detectors

6/18/2008

Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner yesterday announced the latest taxpayer-funded smoke detector giveaway for people who need them.

The Toledo Fire Department provides, when necessary, smoke detectors to Toledo homes for free, Mr. Finkbeiner said.

Toledo City Council last night authorized spending up to $30,000 to buy 3,000 smoke detectors.

Council purchased 3,000 smoke detectors for the program earlier this year.

Seventeen fire stations throughout the city and the fire prevention bureau at 545 North Huron St. have the detectors.
