Toledo gives $223,300 to arts commission

7/3/2008

The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo is getting $223,300 from the city for this year's public art program.

The expenditure was authorized Tuesday night by an 11-0 vote of the Toledo City Council. Councilman Michael Ashford did not vote.

Councilman Lindsay Webb, chairman of council's youth, parks, and recreation committee, said the money would be used for art projects.

She said some money could be directed toward an outdoor plaza lobby on Superior Street for the arena under construction in downtown. It will include dozens of trees and a memorial sculpture to Toledo jazz legend Art Tatum.
