2 found guilty in Toledo robbery

Two men charged with robbing a man at gunpoint in central Toledo in March were found guilty yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for their roles in the crime.

Darnell Walker, 18, of 321 Oconnell St. pleaded no contest to and was found guilty of aggravated robbery with a firearms specification and possession of crack cocaine.

An additional charge of felonious assault with a gun specification as well as charges of trafficking in cocaine will be dismissed July 28 at his sentencing. He faces up to 11 1/2 years in prison.

Bobby Gittens, 19, of 3547 Hoiles Ave. pleaded no contest to and was found guilty of complicity to aggravated robbery with a firearms specification.

A felonious assault charge with a gun specification will be dismissed. He faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced July 28.

Authorities said Roy Young was walking in the 400 block of Cumberland Place about 2 a.m. March 28 when two men grabbed him. One pulled out a semiautomatic handgun, and the other demanded that Mr. Young give him everything he had and began searching through Mr. Young's pockets.

The two men were arrested after Toledo police followed two sets of footprints in the snow to a house at 3328 Glenwood Ave., where they were found hiding.

Officers found a loaded semiautomatic handgun, ammunition, and a bag of crack cocaine in Walker's front pocket.
