Ex-Gorham Fayette teacher given 3 years for student sexual battery

BRYAN - A former Gorham Fayette High School teacher was sentenced to serve two concurrent three-year prison terms after being found guilty of the sexual battery of two male students.

Tabatha Fidler, 37, of Angola, Ind., was sentenced Monday in Williams County Common Pleas Court on two felonious sexual battery convictions.

The first charge was based on accusations that she had sexual contact with a boy on one occasion in June, 2007, at her former home in Montpelier, Ohio.

The other charge was based on earlier incidents with an 18-year-old student in April and May, 2004, when she taught in the North Central School District in Pioneer, Ohio.

The earlier incidents arose through anonymous letters and e-mails sent to the county prosecutor's office, county Prosecutor Thomas A. Thompson said.

She changed her plea from not guilty to guilty in June, after the second charge was added, Mr. Thompson said.

She was placed on administrative leave from her job as a health and physical education teacher at Gorham Fayette High in January and resigned from her job in April.
