Owens-Illinois Inc. announced yesterday that it will close a Canadian glass container plant in a drive to cut energy and production costs.

The closing, expected on Oct. 31, in Lavington, B.C., will affect 300 employees, the suburban Toledo company said.

The Perrysburg building and automotive glass maker said last month that it will close a plant in Toronto on Sept. 30 and ex-pand another in New Zealand. The expansion is expected to increase the annual output of glass containers by 90,000 tons, to 2.2 million bottles a day, and should be complete by the fi rst quarter of 2010.
