A South Toledo man accused of assaulting and threatening to kill his former girlfriend has been sentenced to serve 2 1/2 years in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio in Stryker, authorities said.

Deon Brown, 29, of 6918 Oak Field Drive, was convicted Wednesday in Toledo Municipal Court on two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence, one from August, the other from July; violating a temporary protection order, and driving without a license.

Brown also was convicted in Lucas County Common Pleas Court on a first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence charge that was reduced from a third-degree felony stemming from an incident in May.

About 10 p.m. Aug. 25, Brown went to his former girlfriend's apartment at 220 Page St. While there, police said Brown argued with Tamesha Gott, 23, with whom he has a child, pulled her hair, and then punched her several times in the face. Ms. Gott took her young son and fled, police said.

On July 2, Brown was accused of choking Ms. Gott after breaking into her apartment, and also was charged with forcing Ms. Gott into a car May 3, driving her to a wooded area off Alexis Road, and threatening to kill her.
