Specialty-parts maker sold to investment group

NORTH BALTIMORE D.S. Brown Co., the nation s leading producer of specialty components for bridges and highways, has been sold to an investment group led by Altus Capital Partners, Westport, Conn.

The sales price wasn t disclosed. The 118-year-old firm employs 250 people at its headquarters and lone plant in the Wood County community of North Baltimore. It had been owned by the private investment arm of Bank of America since 1998.

The Brown firm sells products across North America, Asia, and the Middle East. Past projects it has supplied include the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and Carquinez Bridge in the San Francisco Bay area.
