Toledo dad accused of attempting to kill girl, 4, to stand trial

A Toledo father charged with trying to kill himself and his young daughter by asphyxiation will stand trial on attempted murder and felonious assault charges Nov. 17.

Thomas Bragg, 46, of 4129 Willys Pkwy., was found not eligible for a not guilty by reason of insanity plea yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

The ruling was made about a month after Judge Linda Jennings found him competent to face the charges.

Police said Mr. Bragg put his 4-year-old daughter into his vehicle about 4 a.m. July 9 and told her that they were going camping.

He then drove to a parking lot near Telegraph and West Stateline roads and tried to kill himself and his daughter by attaching a hose from the vehicle's exhaust pipe to the rear passenger window, police said.

A truck driver who had gone to the parking lot noticed the running vehicle and called police.

Mr. Bragg is charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of felonious assault. He remains in the county jail in lieu of a $1.2 million bond.
