'Dry' Toledo precinct push joined by McNamara

10/23/2008

Twenty-five volunteers and neighbors of Toledo's Vistula Historic District, who are seeking to vote their precinct "dry," were joined yesterday by a Toledo councilman knocking on doors to promote their cause.

Councilman Joe McNamara said two carryouts in the neighborhood are magnets for crime and he wants their alcohol sales stopped.

Voters in Precinct 2-F, bounded by Water, Champlain, Walnut, and Elm streets, will decide the matter Nov. 4 when they vote for or against permits that authorize the sale of off-premises consumption beer, wine, and mixed beverages, according to the ballot language.

The vote may affect The Beer Dock, 932 North Huron St.; Walnut Carryout, 832 Walnut St., and James Pharmacy, 623 Lagrange St., which sells beer.

Precinct voters number 721, according to the Lucas County Board of Elections.
