Seneca County hires workers to support EMS squads

10/23/2008

TIFFIN In response to a shortage of volunteers to staff local emergency medical service squads, Seneca County plans to launch what it calls an echo unit to back up volunteer EMS squads, beginning Monday.

Ken Majors, EMS director, said two paramedics have been hired and two more are to be on board next week.

He said the unit would be based at the EMS headquarters in Tiffin and respond to calls from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

The new team is expected to have eight paramedics who will work 20 hours or less a week at an estimated cost of $60,000 a year, Mr. Majors said.
