State patrol names new commander at Van Wert

10/23/2008

A new commander for the Ohio Highway Patrol's Van Wert post has been selected, while a trooper from the Lima post recently was recognized for his efforts to recover stolen automobiles.

Sgt. David R. Van Buren, currently assigned to the Cambridge post, was promoted to lieutenant this week and will transfer to Van Wert.

Lieutenant Van Buren has been a trooper since 1990, serving his entire career in Cambridge and Zanesville.

In Lima, Trooper Daniel J. Edelbrock was recognized with his first ACE award from the patrol for recovering five stolen vehicles and arresting five suspects connected to the thefts.

Trooper Edelbrock joined the patrol in October, 2001, and has been assigned to the Lima post since 2005.

Each ACE Award winner receives a certificate, special ACE license plates for his or her cruiser, and a uniform ribbon.

Since the ACE Award was created in 1972, more than 750 troopers have been recognized, including then-Trooper Van Buren in 1992.

The patrol also announced the promotion of Trooper Timothy A. Root, assigned to the Columbus District Office of Investigative Services, to sergeant and his concurrent transfer to the Findlay District Office of Investigative Services.
