Suspect in Toledo assault not competent to stand trial

10/23/2008

A central Toledo woman accused of assaulting a Lucas County sheriff's deputy at a downtown bank was found not competent to stand trial yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Edone Parker, 48, of 615 Cherry St. was charged with assault after being accused of attacking a deputy Aug. 4 at the Fifth Third Bank, 608 Madison Ave.

Because the victim was a peace officer, Ms. Parker faced up to 18 months if convicted.

After reviewing a psychological evaluation, Judge Linda Jennings declared Ms. Parker not competent to stand trial. If she is restored to competency within a year, she will face the charge in court.

Sheriff's Deputy Leslie Ruihley was at the bank about 9:10 a.m. when she observed a woman becoming angry with bank staff.

According to a report of the incident, the uniformed deputy asked the woman to leave.

Ms. Parker is accused of grabbing Deputy Ruihley's hair from behind, at which point they began fighting.

The deputy was treated at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center for face, neck, and leg injuries.
