Man killed in Hancock County crash

FINDLAY A Louisville, Ohio, man was killed when his car crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer rig and overturned several times early Friday on U.S. 30 west of State Rt. 235 in southwestern Hancock County, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Jordan Bailey, 21, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers at the patrol s Findlay post said.

The crash occurred about 12:45 a.m. in Orange Township, about 15 miles southwest of Findlay, which is about 40 miles south of Toledo.

Mr. Bailey was driving a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 east on U.S. 30 when the car struck the rear of the semi driven by James Schmeisser, 56, of Lake Mills, Wis., who was also eastbound on the road. The car then overturned several times before coming to rest in the median, troopers said.

Mr. Bailey was not using the seat belt properly at the time of the crash, Trooper Zachary Yoder said. Mr. Bailey had the lap belt on but he had left the shoulder strap behind his back, Trooper Yoder said.

Mr. Schmeisser, the driver of the semi, was not injured in the crash, the post said.

The crash remained under investigation by the post, which released no further information Friday morning.
