Southview completed a perfect journey by knocking off defending champion Cincinnati Anderson 29-25 in the Division II state football title game last night at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium. Alex Pidcock finished a last-minute scoring drive by finding Paul Murphey wide open for a game-deciding, 16-yard touchdown completion with 32 seconds remaining in the contest.

A central Toledo man convicted of domestic violence once before was arrested yesterday after he was accused of punching and scratching the mother of his child, authorities said. Christopher Burleson, 43, of 1706 Joffre Ave. was charged with felony domestic violence and obstructing official business. He was held without bond last night in the Lucas County jail.

Yet another challenge is facing the U.S. auto industry. And this time, it isn t coming from Japan, South Korea, or Germany or the meltdown of the economy. In the next few years, Indian automakers and parts suppliers, long outcasts because of lackluster innovation and stagnant technology, have ambitious plans to sell cars to American consumers and peddle parts to carmakers in this country.

As it turned out, Friday's football game at the University of Toledo's Glass Bowl was the last for two coaches. Gregg Brandon was fired as coach of Bowling Green State University yesterday morning, just hours after the Falcons defeated rival Toledo 38-10 to end their year with a disappointing 6-6 record. It also was the final game for UT coach Tom Amstutz, who announced his resignation weeks ago.

Just a note: Ohio State did not win the Big 10 this year as The Blade keeps writing. The Buckeyes were given a "gift" co-championship with Penn State. In case you missed the game, Penn Sate beat Ohio State and did not "get the nod" to go to the Rose bowl, the Nittany Lions earned it.

A 30-year-old woman escaped with her life after her estranged husband shot and killed her boyfriend and assaulted her before taking his own life in her parents' West Toledo home, police said. Authorities yesterday identifed the victims as they continued to investigate the incident at 2615 West Alexis Rd. which occurred late Friday.

Standing at the podium for his season-ending press conference last Monday, Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez was asked if he had heard one of his player's stinging comments following the Wolverines' loss at Ohio State. "No," Rodriguez began. "Should I have? Is there more drama coming?"
