Open houses to preview auction of ex-dealership near Defiance

DEFIANCE The Ohio Department of Transportation next week plans to auction a former auto dealership west of Defiance it bought as part of land acquisition for the new U.S. 24. The first of two open houses will be held there this afternoon.

The former Stykemain Pontiac-Buick-GMC dealership is next to what will become the State Rt. 424 interchange when the highway is completed next year. The property available for auction includes 29.8 acres, a 25,190 square-foot commercial building, and a 2,041 square-foot private residence.

The property will be offered as-is and as a single parcel. It has an appraised value of $2.05 million. It comprises unused portions of three parcels on the north side of the old U.S. 24 right-of-way ODOT bought in 2006 to build the interchange.

Today s open house and one on Tuesday will run from 2 to 5 p.m. The auction will begin at 3 p.m. Dec. 11 in the commercial building on the site.
