The owner of a South Toledo Marathon gas station was shot during a robbery yesterday.

Houssain Moubarak, 57, was taken to Toledo Hospital, where hospital officials said they had no patient by that name. His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

Mr. Moubarak was at the station, 905 South Ave., at 7:20 a.m. when he went outside to get his eyeglasses from his truck. As he opened the passenger door, two suspects, one of whom had a handgun, approached and demanded money, police said.

When Mr. Moubarak refused to give them any, a struggle ensued, and one of the suspects fired at least two shots, one of which struck Mr. Moubarak in the left leg, police said.

Mr. Moubarak then fired three to four rounds from his 9mm handgun into the air as the assailants fled without any money.
