Ex-Arcadia worker will get $180,000 settlement

12/4/2008

ARCADIA, Ohio The Arcadia Local Board of Education has agreed to pay $180,000 to its former maintenance supervisor, who sued the district after the board did not renew his contract.

Earlier this year, a visiting judge in Hancock County Common Pleas Court ordered that Arcadia reinstate John Mosley and pay him $83,854 in back pay and lost benefits since he was unlawfully terminated in 2006 as well as continuing damages until he was reinstated.

Given the risk inherent in continued litigation, including the risk of additional economic exposure, the board has concluded under the circum stances, this settlement best serves the interests of our taxpayers, our employees and our educational program, the board said in a prepared statement.

As part of the settlement, Mr. Mosley will not return to work.
