TEMPERANCE - Authorities are seeking a man who snatched a purse from an occupied vehicle in the parking lot of a Lewis Avenue supermarket Sunday afternoon.

A 77-year-old man was in his vehicle at the Food Town store while his wife shopped when the suspect, described as a white male in his early 20s with a slender build, opened the driver's side door and grabbed a purse that was perched on the vehicle's center console, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The two struggled over the purse, but the robber prevailed and fled on foot.

Sheriff's Deputy Jeremy Peters and police service dog Mia tracked from the scene to a nearby home where the purse was recovered, along with other unspecified evidence.

The sheriff's office did not disclose the address where the purse was found.
