Two East Toledo apartment buildings were damaged by fire overnight sending at least two people to an area hospital, authorities said.

The victims were taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center Thursday morning after a fire at 1001 Starr Ave., near East Broadway St., authorities said.

The victims, whose names were not released, were being treated for smoke inhalation. Their conditions were not available.

The fire at 1001 Starr was reported about 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke pouring from the apartments, which are above the Blue Moon Bar, authorities said.

An accidental fire Wednesday night in East Toledo caused an estimated $45,000 damage to a three-unit apartment building, authorities said.

The fire at 621 6th St., near Starr Ave., was reported about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Battalion Chief Jerry Abair said no one was injured in the fire and the American Red Cross was called to assist a family.
