The recently formed Islamic Food Bank of Toledo last night donated about 1,500 pounds of meat to the Toledo Seagate Foodbank to mark Eid al-Adha, a feast day that is observed at the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

The mutton, lamb, and beef was processed according to U.S. Department of Agriculture regulations and Islamic belief and will be available to soup kitchens and food pantries, said Deborah Vas, executive director of the Seagate Foodbank.

The meat was donated by Islamic families in memory of their parents to commemorate the holiday, said John Shousher, a facilitator for the Islamic Food Bank.

A feature of the holiday is the donation of meat to the poor.
