Icy conditions expected in lower Michigan Friday

12/26/2008

A winter weather advisory is in effect Friday for most of southeast Michigan including Monroe and Lenawee counties.

The National Weather Service in Detroit issued the advisory for 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday because a low pressure system will bring a warm front over the area, causing precipitation likely to result in icy conditions.

The precipitation is expected to start as snow and sleet and turn by late morning into freezing rain that is expected to last several hours.

The weather service predicts up to 0.1-inch of ice will form and advises travelers to be cautious of slippery roads and sidewalks.

Temperatures will be in the low 40s throughout the day.
