Teenager arrested after chase with police
12/26/2008A Toledo teenager was accused of driving a pickup truck at officers near an apparent burglary scene, damaging a police car, leading police on a chase, and then injuring two officers while resisting arrest early Friday in the central city, authorities said.
Daniel Wilson, 17, of 1350 West Delaware Ave., who police said smelled of intoxicants, was arrested and charged with felonious assault, two counts of attempted felonious assault on a police officer, failure to comply with a lawful order of a police officer, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, obstructing official business, and curfew violation. He was later released into his mother s custody, Toledo police said.
Two police officers suffered minor injuries in his apprehension. One suffered soreness in his right wrist, and the other had scrapes to his hands and knees, police said.
Officers were responding to a report of a burglary in the 2200 block of Putnam Street near Batavia Street about 1:30 a.m. when a pickup truck headed at a police car and struck it but not before the officer at the wheel jumped out.
The driver of the pickup truck then led police on a chase on icy roads for a couple of blocks to the intersection of Putnam and Machen Street, where he abandoned the vehicle. The driver then hid under a porch and his only passenger fled, police said.
The driver then ran on Putnam, across West Delaware, and to Edmond Street, where he fought police while resisting arrest. After he was taken into custody, he vomited from exhaustion, and was released into his mother s custody, police said.
