Weather service issues flood warnings for area rivers

The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for several rivers in northwest Ohio.

Recent rainfall combined with melting snow has led to flooding of the Maumee River near Defiance, the Saint Joseph River near Montpelier, Ohio, and the Tiffin River near Stryker, Ohio.

Only minor flooding has been reported.

As of 6:15 a.m. Monday, the Maumee River was 10.63 feet near Defiance. The flood stage is 10 feet in that area. Northeast in Napoleon, the river was just over 10 feet, but the flood stage there is 12 feet.

In Williams County, the Saint Joseph River near Montpelier was 12.56 feet at 7 a.m. Monday, topping the 12-foot flood stage, and the Tiffin River near Stryker was 12.65 feet at 9 a.m., which is above the 11-foot flood stage.

The Tiffin River was expected to rise to 13 feet near Stryker by Wednesday morning.
