Lucas housing agency gets $172,180 in U.S. aid

The Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority is among the state s top recipients of grant money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide low-income people with job training to put them on a path toward self-sufficiency.

Nearly $49 million in funding was announced recently, of which $2,614,013 was designated for Ohio agencies and $1,152,837 for communities in Michigan.

Locally, the Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority was awarded $172,180 and the Erie Metropolitan Housing Authority in Sandusky was given $50,633.

The grants are designed to help public housing agencies work with welfare agencies, schools, businesses, and other local partners to develop a comprehensive program to help individuals develop the skills and experience they need to obtain decent-paying jobs.
